Physical Therapy Doug Levine

Doug has been a physical therapist since 1997, and has focused his career on the pediatric population. He has worked for the Shorkey Center in Beaumont, Texas, Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, Texas, and has provided school-based physical therapy for over 10 school districts in Texas. Doug’s desire to help children improve their functional skills where they live and play led him and his wife, Stephanie to form Growing Places Therapy Services, PLLC. Since 2006, Growing Places has served over 500 children and their families, providing pediatric physical, occupational, and speech therapies in the home, school, and daycare settings. Doug particularly enjoys working closely with the families of the children he serves, helping them to educate themselves, facilitate communication between medical disciplines, and providing support and resources to families in need of guidance. He has been working with families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy from the beginning of his career and has chosen to focus much of his time and energy to help those in need that have been impacted by this disease.

Doug volunteers weekly, helping to run the Bravo team- a gymnastics class for children with special needs through Champions Gymnastics. He is on the board of Hand to hold, a non-profit organization which offers support to parents of premature and/or medically fragile infants. Doug has been the physical therapist for the Austin area Muscular Dystrophy clinic for the past 7 years. He has been an active volunteer for MDA Summer Camp in Burton, Texas for the past ten years, and has enjoyed helping children with muscular dystrophy experience sleep-away camp and outdoor fun in a safe, supportive environment.

Although running Growing Places takes a good deal of time, as do his volunteer commitments, Doug’s passion for working directly with the children and families drives him to continue to make that his top priority. He enjoys teaching, where he feels he can impact families the most over the long term. He is thrilled to be able to directly share his experience and knowledge with more families all over the country through Cure Duchenne.
