Exercise and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: Part 2

Currently, there is a clear paucity of information to guide exercise prescription for patients with DMD. While clinical concerns based on the notion that excessive exercise may exacerbate the disease process are justified, recent research in boys with DMD suggests that specific types of exercise are not only safe but may have a positive impact on muscle function. Building upon this, ongoing research is exploring how a combination of both resistance and aerobic exercise may maximize patient outcomes.
